How To Choose the IPX Level For LED?
LED are the most popular lights, widely used in outdoor advertising, portable lighting, street lamps, display screens and other lighting display equipment. Currently in the LED industry, what are most widely used is the LED lights, LED lights’ low cost, low power consumption and with highest brightness, which makes itself the most commonly used outdoor lights. The environment when using the LED lights are complex, usually before it comes out from the factory, it has to be in the high and low temperature, different humidity, salt spray corrosion, UV aging, rain, dust, vibration and other tests. Dust test is also the most commonly used test for LED stability. Especially when used in outdoor lights, there will be some dust attack to the LED lights inevitably, if there are the too much dust going into the LED lights, it will affect the normal using of LED lights. Therefore, dust protection tests are needed for LED lights. During the dust tests, we will need the dust test chamber, the dust chamber can simulate different degrees of dust spray, and can effectively simulate the environment of daily life with the dust floating and sand storms, which can test on LED lights with different dust level tests.
According to the current LED lamp dust test standards, the IP protection level are required to reach level 6, which is completely prevent dust into the LED lights. Apart from that, LED is also needed to the waterproof tests, therefore it will also need to use the rain test chamber for spraying test and flooding test. Currently as we known, the LED lights, such as street lamps, advertising lights, cast light, ladder lights, wall lamps, flashlights and etc are also needed to achieve dust level IP6 and waterproof level IPX5. Unlike what is said before, the LED searchlight have to reach dust level IP6, waterproof Level IPX6. Moreover, LED underwater light will have to reach the highest waterproof level IP68.
Here we take the LED lights when tested in dust test chamber for dust test grade classification. IP0: Completely no dust protection
IP1: Protection against foreign matter falling to 50 mm in diameter
IP2: Protection against foreign matter falling to larger than 12.5 mm in diameter
IP3: Protection against foreign matter with diameter larger than 2.5 mm
IP4: Protection against foreign matter larger than 1.00 mm from falling into the equipment
IP5: completely prevent dust from entering, but the amount of entering dust will not affect the normal operation of the equipment, shall not affect the safety
IP6: completely dust proof
